Competitive Fortnite in 2021 will feature a $20 million prize pool

Following some recent controversy surrounding low prize money payouts by Epic Games, professional Fortnite players can rest assured, as Epic Games set aside 20 million dollars for the competitive scene. Surprisingly that’s a higher number than last year, when Epic Games put up 17 million dollars.

Epic Games goes on to detail quite a few changes to the FNCS (Fortnite Champion Series) following the feedback they’ve received. The most important changes are an additional round in the Weekly Qualifiers, the top three teams from each region’s Finals will auto-qualify for the next season’s FNCS Finals and players will compete in a single cross-platform player pool. FNCS Chapter 2 Season 5 will start with its first qualifier on February 4, with the Finals taking place from March 12 to 14. All changes can be found here.

They also detail how the 20 million dollars prize pool will be distributed. Each of the four FNCS seasons in 2021 will have a 3 million dollars prize pool, being split up over all regions and with the highest amount going to Europe and North America. Epic Games will also be releasing multiple other competitions which will feature the additional 8 million dollars in prize money. Details on those events is to come later.

Aside from the traditional competitive format, Epic Games will also be continuing the cash cups, such as the Solo Saturdays and Trio Cash Cups (every Monday). They’ll also be hosting some console exclusive tournaments.
