Cloud9 make it back to Worlds after ending TSM’s season

Cloud9 made their first international appearance in two years earlier in 2021 by attending MSI. Historically the LCS’s best international performer at Worlds, their presence was severely missed on the most important stage in esports. Finally, after defeating TSM in a 5-game series, Cloud9 will get a shot at Worlds once again. Despite putting up an exciting series, TSM met an unfortunate end. Cloud9 will advance to the lower bracket finals to face off against 100 Thieves.

Cloud9 vs TSM – Another chapter in the rivalry

TSM and Cloud9 have had a long, storied rivalry in the LCS. Both teams have consistently met in playoffs and finals series, though often TSM has prevailed. This time, Cloud9 not only get the satisfaction of defeating Cloud9, but denying them a title and Worlds spot. The series was contentious from the very beginning, as by game three it was even at 1 to 1. Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon’s performance in game three took TSM to series point, but Cloud9 turned the tide soon after.

Luka “Perkz” Perkovic turned around his initially poor performance to dominant in the final two games. C9’s mid and jungle duo snowballed the game early and ran away with game five to secure their victory. Unfortunately, TSM’s season met an untimely end.

Will Cloud9 face off against Team Liquid again?

Cloud9 have had the longest path to (potentially) finals in the LCS Championship. While impressive today, C9 still have one more series until they get a rematch versus the team who initially dropped them into the lower bracket, Team Liquid.

As the defending champions, Cloud9 may be the favorites moving into their series against 100 Thieves. Still, both teams have shown prowess in their post-season runs. If Cloud9 meet Team Liquid once again, it will be the third (and final) grand finals series between the two.
