Cloud9 and G2 Esports allegedly colluded to prevent Perkz from joining Fnatic

Jacob Wolf of Dot Esports reports that several weeks ago Fnatic filed a compliant with the LEC office to investigate the nature of Luka “Perkz” Perkovic’s 2020 offseason buyout to Cloud9. Supposedly, there was a clause in Perkz’s contract the excluded him from signing with Fnatic through 2023. Of course, Fnatic were G2’s perennial rivals before Perkz was offloaded to North America.

Riot Games launched an investigation into the contract to establish whether or not this specific clause damaged Perkz’s offseason prospects. The investigation did not find Cloud9 or G2 Esports guilty, as they reported the contract has not hindered Perkz’s prospects for the 2022 season.

Sources close to Jacob Wolf and Dot Esports that disagreements between Cloud9 and Fnatic over the cost of Perkz’s buyout was chief among the reasons why the clause was not considered to affect Perkz’s offseason opportunities. Now playing under Team Vitality’s banner, Perkz will remain ineligible to play for Fnatic until 2024.

Though clearing both Cloud9 and G2 Esports, Riot Games stated that they would not allow clauses such as this in the future. Vitality has been one of the biggest surprises to come out of the recent offseason. The French organization is reportedly acquiring Alphari and Perkz from their respective LCS teams. While keeping Selfmade and Labrov, rumors have swirled that MAD Lion’s ADC Carzzy will join the team.

Though the free agency window has yet to open, Vitality has allegedly already made verbal agreements with all five players. Not yet free to play for Fnatic, Perkz will make his 2022 re-debut in the LEC with Vitality
