One of the biggest consequences of the ban is that the PUBG Champions League, which is the franchised league in China and one of the biggest in the world, won’t be able to start. If the championship can’t be played, it also means that Chinese teams won’t be able to qualify themselves for the PUBG Global Championship either.
According to a statement made by Yibo Zhang, the Vice President of China Culture Management Association Esports Committee in an interview with Sports Business Journal, gave more insight into the ban. “The ban will affect thousands of PUBG tournaments, organizers, teams, content creators, streamers and professional players. It’s not yet clear if PUBG will be banned on live streaming platforms. So far it only affects PUBG competition.”
