Chess tournament PogChamps 3 to feature Pokimane, Mr Beast and actor Rainn Wilson

Starting February 14 we’ll get to see PogChamps 3, a chess tournament which will feature some of the current biggest streamers alongside some celebrity players. It’s the third edition of the PogChamp series, with the previous tournaments already scoring high when it comes to viewership.

The tournament also has a few confirmed participants already. Among them are YouTube superstart Mr Beast and some of the most popular Twitch streamers of the moment such as Pokimane, xQc, Myth, Ludwig and Cr1tikal. PogChamps 3 will also feature some celebrity players, such as Rainn Wilson, who is best known for his role as Dwight Schrute in the sitcom ‘The Office’.

Commentary to the event will be provided by Chess Grand Master Hikaru Nakamura and Women’s FIDE master Alexandra Botez, the latter having recently signed with esports organization Envy. They’ll be joined by International Masters Levy Rozman, Anna Rudolf and Danny Rensch.

Aside from having a star-studded pool of participants, the tournament will also feature a sizable prize pool of $100.000, which will be matched by Chess.com in donations to non-profit organizations. Chess.com (and chess in general) has grown tremendously over the past year and has become one of the most popular categories on Twitch.

The tournament will be played from February 14 until February 28, starting with the group stage in the first week. Chess.com outlined the format of the tournament on their website. “Players will then advance players into a championship and consolation bracket, with the top two from each group advancing to the championship bracket. Players will once again play a double-round robin in the group stages.”
