Call of Duty’s 2021 in Review – Bugs, Heroes and New Beginnings

365 day full of action, bugs and stories. 2021 was a turbulent year in Call of Duty. Here are our highlights and lowlights of the year in review.

Bugs and Glitches

A game as large and complex as Call of Duty often runs into issues. 2021 was no exception as plenty of bugs and glitches were encountered throughout the year. While the many problems were rage-inducing in the game, now in review they are quite funny. Things like Dognado’s or invisible vehicles and opponents were unfortunately not the exception but a constant companion for many players.

Skins were no exception from the annoyances as the infamous Roze skin was not only hard to discern but also shortly turned the entire head invisble.

Less cheaters, more heroes

But between all these issues there was also plenty of fun and enjoyment. Seasons filled to the brim with new weapons and game modes provided variety in Call of Duty. Activision also did constantly combat the cheater plague in the game.

Ricochet has now also arrived to Vanguard and promises to be a much better experience for the players.

Call of Duty League – Atlanta FaZe takes it all

Despite the pandemic the esports scene also continued to march forward as 2021 saw the Call of Duty League host five majors and the global championship. FaZe were the strongest teams throughout the year as they took three of five majors and also claimed the world championship in August against Toronto Ultra.

World Series of Warzone – Do not forget your alarms

November saw another competitive highlight as well as an amusing lowlight. The World Series of Warzone offered $400,000 in prize money in high stake competitions. But even with all that on the line Minnesota RØKKR’s Rasim “Blazt” Ogresevic simply overslept.

While his teammate worried about him, he took a nice nap and missed out on his chance to compete. Let that be a reminder to you all to set your alarms properly.

Verdansk is dead, long live Caldera?

Towards the end of the year, some melancholy has also arrived to Call of Duty. While Caldera promises to become an interesting new map, the switch to Vanguard also meant farewell to Verdansk.

The map has become much beloved by the community throughout its time and many players took screenshots and more to properly say goodbye to the city. But all in all 2021 was full of variety and highlights in Call of Duty. 2022 is already on the horizon and promises to be a great experience as well.
