Call of Duty: Vanguard – Everything you need to know

Release date, early access & open beta

Call of Duty Vanguard will be released on November 5, 2021. In doing so it’ll continue the trend of Call of Duty games being released in the first week of November, so you’ll be able to get your hands on Vanguard in a few months. There’ll also be an open beta where you can play the game ahead of time and you can get early access to that beta by pre-ordering your copy of Call of Duty Vanguard.

Who is developing the game and for which platforms?

Call of Duty Vanguard is being developed by Sledgehammer games, who have worked on other Call of Duty titles, most notably Call of Duty WWII in the past. You’ll be able to play Call of Duty Vanguard on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Battle.net.

Is there a single player campaign?

Yes! The campaign of Call of Duty Vanguard will feature four soldiers who form Task Force One, who set the stage for Special Forces as we know it today. Sledgehammer Games already gave us a little peek into the campaign. “Through the gripping narrative and remarkable journey of these steeled soldiers, players will experience influential battles of World War II as they engage enemies across the Eastern and Western Fronts of Europe, and fight for the free world throughout the Pacific and North Africa.”

What do we know about multiplayer?

First and foremost, Vanguard is setting out to be a huge multiplayer experience. In their reveal, they already said there’ll be 20 maps available at launch with 16 of those built for core gameplay. Sledgehammer has also promised to innovate and get you more ways to play, by upgrading the Gunsmith and Caliber system and introducing new game modes. We don’t know a lot yet, as the multiplayer will be revealed separately in the near future.

Will Zombies return?

Zombies will return in Call of Duty Vanguard and Sledgehammer Games will be working together with Treyarch, expanding on the Dark Aether story we got to see a lot of in Cold War. “This cooperative experience continues and intertwines with the Dark Aether story to create deeply engaging lore, all while innovating on the core gameplay that the mode is famous for. Discover the unspeakable horrors of the precursor to Black Ops Cold War Zombies while holding off the relentless onslaught of the undead”.

What does Vanguard mean for Warzone?

According to Sledgehammer, all Vanguard weapons and operators will become integrated into Warzone, which will include a brand new map that is likely World War II themed. When it comes to the story that comes with this new map, chances are we’ll have to wait a little bit longer on more news.

Extra features

Call of Duty Vanguard will continue to feature a crossplay experience across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. You’ll also be able to carry over your profile and accompanying stats to other platforms. Sledgehammer has already promised loads of post-launch content with expansions on Multiplayer and Zombies, while also bringing back the Call of Duty Battle Pass system.
