Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II & new Warzone announced – to be built on entirely new engine

There aren’t a lot of things you can count on in life. Activision releasing a new Call of Duty every year is one of those things. The developer has officially revealed the new title to be “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II”.

Warzone is getting an upgrade as well, with both games being built on a “brand-new” engine Activision has reportedly been working on for years. The new Warzone is being built from the ground up, to create an entirely new experience for the fans of the game.

As with any announcement, hype words were thrown around. Pat Kelly, Infinity Ward co-studio head, said: “The new Warzone will be disruptive and a massive evolution of Battle Royale. An “incredibly ambitious sandbox mod” was teased as well for the new release.

Many fans were already expecting a sequel to the 2019 title Modern Warfare. With Activision confirming Infinity ward as the team responsible for the 2022 title, those expectations became reality.

It’s currently unknown whether the two titles will be simultaneously released. Warzone was released back in 2020 and quickly became one of the most played games in the world, generating billions upon billions of dollars of revenue for the Call of Duty franchise.

An exact release date wasn’t mentioned but should be in fall of this year.
