Building a legacy – 5 great Fnatic Rekkles moments

One of Europe’s most iconic, most loyal and most consistent Marksmen has decided to start a new chapter in his life. This marks the end of “Rekkles” in the Fnatic family. He helped build the reputation of the organisation on the international stage and gave us some of the most memorable moments in European history. Let us honour FNC Rekkles one more time by looking at 5 of his most memorable moments!
Repeating history?

We live in a world where Perkz does not play for G2 anymore and Rekkles does not play for Fnatic. That looks crazy but it is actually very understandable. Rekkles’ dream has and always will be to win Worlds. He has tried that with Fnatic multiple times but always came short. G2 has cemented themselves as the new powerhouse of Europe and the most competitive Western team on the international stage. We know Rekkles made such a roster move before and it did not turn out great. Let us see if it will work out this time.

5. Rekkles returns to Fnatic

Rekkles made it noticeably clear that he was here to stay. From the start he showed a dominant playstyle, but he was also able to be the silent carry for his team. Fnatic, having good results with the Swedish marksman, knew that Rekkles was about to become the new face of the organisation. And then Alliance happened. Alliance joined the EU LCS as the new super team and was able to win everything and be the first EU seed at Worlds (only to get Kabuumed in groups).

Rekkles saw the success of Alliance and decided to join them and leave Fnatic. This did not turn out as a great choice as Alliance struggled the next split with Rekkles in the botlane. It was not due to Rekkles’ performance, but more so that the EU scene was not ready for a team with so many ego’s and talents. They all had another approach on how to play the game and it did not work out. Rekkles knew that Alliance was about to implode and re-joined Fnatic to eventually become their long-lasting marksman and face of the organisation. The return marked the beginning of a long career under the Fnatic banner.

4. Rekkles plays his first EULCS game for Fnatic

From an incredibly young age Rekkles was scouted to be the next super talent in Europe. With the upcoming new competitive league system that Riot was setting up in 2013 (later known as the EU LCS) Rekkles was instantly signed by Fnatic as their new marksman. However, due to age restrictions, he was not able to play in the newly formed League. This made his first game even more anticipated and the pay-off was big. Facing Russian powerhouse Gambit he ended the game 8/0/9 on Jinx. Talk about a good impression.

3. Rekkles & Hylissang – performing against TES

If you think back to Worlds 2020 you might think that Europe did not perform too well. But having the attitude of expecting more from our teams is good and will only push us to do better on the international stage. However Fnatic almost made the upset happen and went the full five games against Top Esports, one of the top contenders for a spot in the finals. Both Rekkles and Hylissang played such a good series that TES had to completely draft around it. They had to play away from the botlane since Fnatic was dominating it. This shows that even after playing for years, Rekkles is still very hungry for that international title.

2. FNC vs OG – Rekkles Pentakill

Let us take you back in time. Patches were easier, Irelia needed to be nerfed and both Fnatic and Origen dominated Europe. In 2015 they faced each other in a much-anticipated final between the two powerhouses. The finals took place in Sweden, where Rekkles is from, and was remarkably close. In game three, all looked dire for Fnatic as they just threw their lead and Origen pushed their advantage to Fnatic’s base.

Then Rekkles found an opening and started hitting the Origen squad with his Tristana pick. With the buffs from Lulu he quickly found his first kill and he was ramping up to kill all of Origen. After chasing them down from their inhibitor all the way down mid to the other side of the map, he finally picked up a pentakill in his home country on Europe’s biggest stage. A game to remember!

1. Rekkles makes the comeback happen

We remember FNC Rekkles as a very emotional driven player, but not one to back down from a fight. Even if all odds are stacked against him he will give it his best. We saw this come to fruition at Worlds 2017. Fnatic did not have the best run in week 1, going down 0/3 for the first games. All analysts and casters wrote them off as they felt like FNC was struggling with the patch or internally. When week 2 came around and FNC lost their first game, setting them back to a 0/4 record, it looked set in stone that they would not advance.

But a miracle run happened. Rekkles rallied up his troops and they fought back one last time. They would eventually make it out, but it was o so close. Winning their first game against Immortals as revenge for the first week, they were feeling it. They would go on to force a tiebreaker and just barely make it out of groups. Although their run after groups was short, this showed that Rekkles never gave up. We felt his tears in defeat and we shared his joy in victory.

Legacy and career

And that is it for the top five most memorable moments of FNC Rekkles. Of course, Rekkles has quite the legacy and there are many more memorable moments in Rekkles’ career under the Fnatic banner. However, these moments really come to mind when we think back on FNC Rekkles. We wish Rekkles the best of luck at G2 and we will hopefully see him in yet another Worlds final.
