Blizzard Co-Founder Mike Morhaime launches Dreamhaven

A new game developer was launched on September 23 by Mike Morhaime, Co-Founder of Blizzard. The new company reunites several senior ex-Blizzard developers.

Co-Founder and former president of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime, has launched a brand new game publisher and developer: Dreamhaven.

After his departure from Blizzard Activision in October 2018 Mike Morhaime is back in the Game industry as founder and CEO of Dreamhaven. The new company has 27 employees so far and will be split into three entities: Dreamhaven, Moonshot and Secret Door.

Dreamhaven as parent company to the two seperate game developments studios Moonshot and Secret Door will focus on funding, guidance and services both studios need such as human ressources. In an interview with GamesBeat Morhaime said, that he hopes that this structure will allow the studios to enjoy enjoy stability and resources of a larger company, while maintaining enrepeneurial spirit in each studio as they from their own unit.

Reunion of Blizzard veterans

The new company already features an impressive lineup of well-known developers, many who were once part of Blizzard. Hearthstone executive producer Jason Chayes and StarCraft 2 game director Dustin Browder are heading the Moonshot studio, while Hearthstone game director Eric Doods, Hearthstone creative director Ben Thompson and Alan Dabiri, another veteran, who workend on Heroes of the Storm, WarCraft 3 and StarCraft 2 are leading Secret Door.

Although Dreamhaven has not yet announced any titles or projects yet, many fans will be keeping their eyes locked on them. Morhaime further stated that the aim for Dreamhaven is to “create a haven for creators who want an environment that is development friendly, values product and player experience over short-term financial pressures.”

A sentiment that rings true with many, who had been disappointed by Activision Blizzard in the last couple of years.
