Are we getting info about generation 9 on Pokémon Day 2022?

Pokémon Day 2022 is set on February 27 and might give us some more insight into what’s next for the Pokémon franchise following the successful debut of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. During the event the franchise celebrates the release of the original games and often shows more information about the games that are still to come, leading many to speculate about the upcoming 9th generation.

What can we expect?

Most likely is that we’ll be getting some DLC or updates for the newly released Pokémon Legends: Arceus, as that has been teased in the past and fits when it comes to how they’ve been handling content lately. We could see a new area or older mechanics make a return in the game. Others have speculated about a possible third DLC expansion for Pokémon Sword & Shield, expanding the Pokédex a little further and adding some new locations to the game.

Last year they announced Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, new Pokémon Snap and Legends: Arceus, leading many to believe we’ll be getting a trailer or at least teaser for a new game. We haven’t really gotten any information on the upcoming generation and with games such as Legends: Arceus clearly steering away from the formula, there’s a solid chance Pokémon will be building on the current hype to announce the upcoming generation.

Things to look out for in a nutshell according to leakers:

  • Pokémon’s ninth generation may be announced
  • Possible DLC for Pokémon Legends: Arceus (and/or Sword & Shield)
  • A new Detective Pikachu game
