Are CLG pretenders or contenders? Cloud9 upset by Immortals

CLG have claimed their second victory in a row while Immortals’ victory over Cloud9 have many doubting the Spring champions.

Yesterday, CLG shocked the LCS by dominating over 100 Thieves in a perfect victory. It seems as though lightning struck twice as CLG took down another mid-tier team in Evil Geniuses with a similar strategy. Meanwhile, Cloud9 have continued to raise concerns as their loss to Immortals put them at 4-4 since the start of Summer.

Are CLG actual contenders in Summer?

CLG have thrived since prioritizing comfort, and rather unique picks for their roster. Today marked Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen, the generally the LCS’, second Vi game of the year. He found just as much success the second time around, as when paired with Finn “Finn” Wiestal’s Kled, CLG had a dangerous dive composition.

Though EG were able to at least secure some winning trades early, the 13-13 team ultimately fell. While CLG had recently thrived, we will have to see if they can survive these comfort picks being banned out as teams catch on.

Raes and Revenge knock down Cloud9

Cloud9, though still firmly competing at the top of the standings, have shown incredible variance since the start of Summer. Though having incredibly highs, Cloud9 have seen similarly stark lows. Today, Immortals got the best of the Spring champions, largely off an incredible performance from Quin “Raes” Korebrits on Tristana.

Though Cloud9 had a strong mid game, with glimpses of greatness from fellow OCE ADC, Calvin “K1ng” Truong, the scaling threat of Tristana proved too much. Immortals have officially snapped their three game losing streak with an impressive win and will look to secure wins against fellow middle of the pack teams in the next coming weeks.
