Amazon launches Luna Cloud Gaming Service

Amazon has now launched their own bid in the increasingly crowded Cloud Gaming market. Luna will kick off with an early access period in the USA and feature a close integration with Twitch.

During Amazon’s Devices Event on September 25 The new Cloud Gaming service Luna has launched into early access in the United States. It is unclear yet when it will also start in other regions.

Game Channels

Amazon will offer subscription to “Game Channels” on Luna. One of them will be Luna Plus, which is set to feature over 100 games among them Resident Evil 7, Control, Panzer Dragoon, A Plague Tale: Innocence and more. Over time Amazon plans to expand its catalog to include more games. All titles will be available in 4k and 60 fps according to Amazon.

The Game Channels will offer a way for other publishers and developers to reach Luna players as they can choose to feature their own game titles as a bundle. Ubisoft has already been revealed as first partner to create their own specific channel. Games headlining it will include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6 and more.

During the early access period Luna Plus will cost $5.99 per month.

Twitch Integration

Another major selling point of Luna will be the close integration with Twitch. Users will not only be able to watch their favorite streams from Luna, they will also be able to switch seamlessly from watching on Twitch to playing on Luna.

Switching will also be the name of the game for Luna on different platforms. Amazon has announced support for PC, iOS, Android, Fire TV and Mac.

Dedicated Luna Controller

Peripherals for Luna will also be available, starting from a dedicated controller for the Cloud Gaming service. Priced at $49.99 the controller will also allow players to switch between screens without additional pairing or configuration changes. The controller will also be integrated with Alexa.

Amazon’s entry marks the third major competitor in the Cloud Gaming market, joining Google’s Stadia and Microsoft’s xCloud.
