In a blog post by developers World’s Edge and Relic Entertainment, we got shown a picture with the plans they’ve got for in-game content ranging from fall 2021 to spring 2022, starting with the first patch for the game that just released. In the winter of 2021, Age of Empires IV will be focusing mostly on balance patches and bug fixes alongside quality-of-life updates. Some examples include viewing player scores in-game and making the in-game mini-map a bit more readable.

Looking at the future, in spring 2022 Age of Empires IV is looking to add both user generated content through modding, as well as fully fletched Ranked Seasons. The latter will span 12 weeks with head-to-head matches. Players will be able to earn unique rewards through ranked play.
Finally World’s Edge and Relic Entertainment look a little farther into the future, highlighting some of the feedback they’ve received from players which they’ll be tackling. Some of these include improvements to hotkeys which they’re looking to overhaul, tuning the AI difficulty and the return of Waypoint Indicators which were present in previous titles but haven’t made their way into Age of Empires IV.
