Age of Empires IV – January Patch finally nerfs Mongols and Professional Scouts

Relic has announced the release of Patch 10257 with balance changes, bugfixes and more to combat the growing dissatisfaction of their handling of Age of Empires IV so far.

Nerfs for Mongols, Professional Scouts & more

The patch tackles some of the main issues of the playerbase with the current state of the game balance. Mongols got their starting wood reduced and also had the costs of their outposts increased in an attempt to steer the players away from just towerrushing all the time. Professional Scouts was also nerfed as Scouts will now move slower while carrying animal carcasses.

Two other offenders to the game balance were also hit by nerfs: Chinese Fire Lancers and Rus Horse Archers. Their reduction in attributes (and increase in cost for the Fire Lancers) should bring them more in line with the usage intended by the developers.

Bugfixes to HRE and Delhi Spears, Buffs to Delhi Tech

The bugfixes of this patch primarily benefit the HRE and Delhi. Their Spearmen will finally use Brace against cavalry charges now. The developers also fixed the HRE Prelates once again. Hopefully the developers have found all instances of them getting stuck.

For Delhi players the patch also brings some much-needed relief after the previous patch hit the Indian civilization unexpectedly hard. Some of their key technologies are now faster to research and should hopefully bring Delhi up to the level of the others again.

If you are interested in the full changes and developer comments on the patch you can find the full patch notes on the official website.
