Activision shares update on RICOCHET anti-cheat progress

Activision has assured fans and players that the version of the RICOCHET kernel that appeared on hacker forums yesterday is not a leak. Instead, they’ve provided a pre-release version of the driver to select third parties for testing.

Fear was growing that hackers and cheat providers were already looking (and potentially finding) exploits in the system, weeks before the anti-cheat is supposed to launch. Now it’s looking like it’s all part of the Activision plan.

“RICOCHET Anti-Cheat is in controlled live testing. Before putting it on your pc, we’re testing the hell out of it,” TeamRicochet said. That testing also includes giving a version to cheat developers, to see how the anti-cheat fares against the hackers’ best efforts.

This should give the RICOCHET anti-cheat a leg up when it finally launches, as any security issues should have been dealt with thanks to the rigorous testing.

The RICOCHET team is still busy making sure the server-side upgrades are ready for the launch, which should be sometime after the Nov 5 Call of Duty: Vanguard release. The anti-cheat will make its debut in Warzone when the Pacific map drops later this year.

The server-side enhancements combined with the kernel driver should get rid of the cheaters that currently infest the Warzone lobbies, and strengthen account security.
