Activision reveals Ricochet as their new anti-cheat software for Call of Duty and Warzone

Call of Duty and Warzone have suffered from a rise of cheaters across their Call of Duty and Warzone titles. Recently, Activision has made unprecedented efforts to prevent cheaters from ruining their games. In one move, Activision disabled over 100,000 accounts in one fell swoop.

The official Call of Duty account also issued a warning to hackers ahead of the Call of Duty: Vanguard. As it turns out, both of these events were previews of Call of Duty’s new anti-cheat software.

Ricochet supposedly houses a support team entirely dedicated to the detection and investigation of cheaters in Activision titles. Ricochet will feature a Kernel-level driver on PC. The Kernel is the highest level in the Windows operating system, and even a small mistake in coding could break and entire system.

The software will able to scan the game and check for any attempted alterations to the code or source. Kernel drivers can provide system bans, meaning that hackers will not be able to simply create a new account after being banned. If hackers were able to access the Kernel system, they could easily manipulate the system to spy on other players.

This new system will make its debut in Call of Duty: Vanguard. This system undoubtedly requires an immense deal of trust in its team as it has the potential to completely crash and burn. To address the rampant issue of cheaters across their titles, this may be Activision’s best bet.
