Activision Blizzard to focus on Mobile Gaming – Call of Duty: Warzone headed to Mobile?

Activision Blizzard wants to focus more on mobile gaming. As Call of Duty’s Warzone is among the most popular titles it seems very likely that it could be headed for a mobile port soon.

Call of Duty: Mobile has been a smashing success for Activision so far. With more than 300 million downloads within the year the mobile CoD has made quite the mark on the mobile gaming scene.
Building upon that success Activision Blizzard has now stated their intent to bring all their franchises to mobile during their Q3 earnings call,

Job advert for “WZM”

Adding additional fuel to the rumours about a mobile Warzone was a recent job opening at Activision Blizzard. While the advert has been taken down already, Activision Blizzard was searching for an Executive Producer for a “mobile AAA First-Person-Shooter within the Call of Duty franchise”. The game in question was abbreviated as “WZM”, an acronym suspiciously close to Warzone Mobile.

Growing Market for Mobile Gaming

Especially the lukrative Chinese market has been targeted by Activision Blizzard. With more than 50 million pre-registrations for Call of Duty: Mobile before release, that belief seems to be more than justified. Throughout 2019 Activision Blizzard has also managed to earn 2.2 billion US-Dollar just in the mobile gaming sector.

Activision President Rob Kostich also commented on the new direction:

“We see a clear path to continue growing Call of Duty’s reach, engagement, and player investment on mobile in the largest mobile gaming market in the world”
