According to report: No mainline Call of Duty game in 2023

According to the report there won’t be a new mainline Call of Duty game appearing in 2023, with Activision instead focusing support on Warzone (which is getting a sequel) and the upcoming release of Modern Warfare 2 scheduled towards the end of 2022. While another launch within the Call of Duty sphere is planned somewhere in 2022, there’s currently no additional information on what we can expect.

According to the report Activision took note of the lacking sales of Call of Duty: Vanguard and pointed towards the current release cycle of Call of Duty games a major culprit. It’s the first time in well over a decade (starting in 2005) that there won’t be a yearly Call of Duty release, at least a mainline game. Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 will be receiving updates and work throughout 2023 to fill in the gap, however.

Not everyone is opposed to this decision, as fans have long asked Activision to take some more time in-between games. In recent years players have been complaining about mediocre quality of the games and said that a longer development cycle might be just what the games need to come back swinging and produce better, longer-lasting games.
