Fishing is a gameplay mechanic that was added to Genshin Impact a good while back. The gameplay mechanic itself is quite simple, you can fish by using Rods and bait, throw it near a fish you want to catch and when it’s hooked, try and keep the indicator in the yellow zone as you try to up your fishing meter. If you want to get fishing, make sure you’ve completed the “Exploding Population” quest first.

There’s multiple types of bait you can craft, with each of them working on different kinds of fish. You can also find and buy multiple types of fishing rods, but you’ll get the Wilderness Rod first, from the “Exploding Population” quest. Better rods are bought by trading in certain types of fish.

There’s also different types of fish. First and foremost there are the Regular Fish, which are exactly what the name implies, and they’ll go straight to your inventory. There are also Ornamental Fish, which will go into your Furnishing Bag. The difference between the two is that each fish has about a 10% (up to 15%) of being Ornamental. You can use them when decorating your Serenitea Pot.
