5 Tips to get you started in New World

New World has had spectacular numbers for their launch so far, although server issues have plagued the new MMO quite a bit. Interested in jumping into the world of Aeternum? Here are five useful tips to follow once you set foot on to New World.

1. Use Autorun to make your life easier

New World’s game world Aeternum offers a large island to discover, but along the way you will encounter several missions in which you have to traverse long distances by foot. To get from A to B comfortably there is an Autorun function in the game and the tutorial already teaches you how and where to use it.

So if you just want to kick back and enjoy the scenery while walking hit that Autorun to make your way to your destination. However keep in mind that if you use Autorun you cannot gather materials along the way.

2. Iron Tools are a must

In the starting city you first have to familiarize yourself with all the different crafting avenues that New World offers. You can not only craft weapons or ammunition but also your own gathering tools.

There is an important distinction in quality for the first tools you can build. Flint and Iron. Flint is easily acquirable throughout the starting zones and you should get those tools as soon as possible. But once you hit the higher zones with Iron Ore make sure to switch over to the better quality fast. Iron Tools let you gather materials much faster and easier.

3. Salvage unwanted equipment

There is plenty of loot to be had in New World, be it from mobs or chests that are spread throughout the game world. Not every drop is an upgrade or even your preferred weapon, so what do you do with that unwanted equipment?

Instead of just selling them you can also salvage those unwanted items. You get a bit of cash from that as well as material and repair parts, which you can use to keep your gear in shape. Since there is no other way to acquire those repair parts it is very important to keep a stockpile of them ready through salvaging. You don’t want to be stranded in the wild with broken gear.

4. Fast Travel and Recall

New World may not have mounts for your player characters but there is Fast Travel in the MMO. But it is slightly limited to specific Fast Travel points between which you can travel.

However you need to pay a fee in Azoth for using those shrines however. The cost scales off of the distance you want to travel. Since Azoth has a hard-cap at 1000, you should use Fast Travel to spend some of it instead of overcapping and losing out on it.

Another option to move quickly is your Recall. Once per hour you can Recall to an Inn, which you registered at beforehand. Make sure to use it effectively as Recall is free of charge.

5. Toggle PvP for more efficiency

Amazon’s MMO has three factions, that are competing against each other on Aeternum: Marauders (Green), Syndicate (Purple) and Covenant (Orange). PvP in New World also functions along those factions.

Once you have joined one of the three you will have access to not only PvE quests from your faction quarter master but also PvP ones with much better rewards. If you pick one of the PvP quests you will automatically activate PvP once you leave the city.

While having PvP active is obviously more risky as you can get attacked by other players, it also offers rewards. You get more experience and better rewards on your quests. So make sure you have a rough idea on your faction’s strength in your zone to know when you can activate PvP safely.

To disable PvP you just need to head into a city again and turn it off by pressing U.
