5 tips to become better at clutching

It’s always a scary moment, your heart is racing and the eyes of your teammates are gazing on you, judging every move you make. You are of course in a clutch situation in a game where every round counts. How do you give yourself the best odds of winning these clutch situations? We’ll give you five amazing tips to make sure you can impress your friends and get those wins!

Stand your ground

First off, people often want to move around way to much on their T-side afterplants, regardless of it being a clutch situation or not. Try to make sure you have a position which enables you to cover of multiple angles, without being to exposed while sitting there.

If you sit still, you give less time to your enemies, whilst also making sure you might be hidden and waste more valuable time. You can also already try to visualize what your next move will be from that position, to already prepare for the inevitable fight.

Use of utility

As a CT in a clutch situation, it is key to use your utility. Let’s be honest, you often already make noise getting close to the site so they probably know where you are coming from. Try to use what you still have left, like a smoke to cover of an entry point the terrorist might be hiding from, or a flashbang when you peek an angle which exposes you for multiple. Utility is more than clearing, it is a zoning tool to make what you do before easier and safer.

Play on contact

Clutch situations are not always 1v1’s, they might also be a 2v4 where you have the bomb planted. The game is way easier when you play together, so just make sure you actually do so. When your teammate has a fight, join in from a different angle to ensure you will at least get the trade, if not maybe the clean kill. You play on each other’s contact to play out your opponents and win situations that might have played out differently if you had not.

Read into the history

Oh boy are we going back to school? No not really, we’re just looking at what happened earlier in the match. Often people do have certain tendencies they repeat during the match, making it more predictable what angle they are coming from. Try to make mental, or even physical, notes of what certain players do and put that into play during your clutch situations. It eliminates the doubt that you might have and makes focussing much easier on to the angles that matter.

Prefire your way to victory

At a certain moment you will have to peek and fight, but make sure you have the best odds when you do so. Prefire on their position or at least the position you think they will be in, to greatly increase your chances of being the first to pull the trigger and win the fight!
