5 Most improved players in the LCS in 2021

The 2022 LCS season is just on the horizon, as the LCS Lock-In is set to kick off the season on Jan. 14. Reflecting back on the previous season, countless players rose to the occasion and will look to continue their upward trajectory into 2022. These are the five players that improved the most throughout the course of the 2021 season.

5. Huhi

The South Korean support player had a serious redemption in 2021. The player re-join 100 Thieves as many players from the 2020 Golden Guardians players were acquisition by the organization. Formerly a midlaner for the team, Huhi had one of his worst years on record with 100 Thieves. Huhi’s roleswap to support marked a resurgence for the player. By the end of the year, Huhi was an integral part of 100 Thieves’ first LCS Championship run and made a return to Worlds after several years of absence.

4. PowerOfEvil

The one-year wonder has never spent longer than two splits with any organization. Originally moving to the LCS to join OpTic Gaming, PowerOfEvil went through several different LCS teams, each which found minimal success. Joining TSM, PowerOfEvil quickly became the most consistent player on the roster and near constant win condition for the legacy LCS organization. Though TSM failed to qualify for Worlds 2021, PowerOfEvil had his best year in NA yet in 2021.

3. Xerxe

Xerxe is another European player who transitioned to the LCS several years ago, but largely failed to leave a mark. Formerly of Spylce, Xerxe managed to infuse the Immortals squad with some new life in 2021. Whenever the Rumble jungle meta came, Xerxe was leading the pack in the LCS. For the first time in years, even before Immortal’s re-entry into the LCS, the team seemed like a serious threat. Xerxe has decided to remain with the roster for another year, seemingly stronger than ever as the team has recruited a new midlaner and ADC. If Immortals are to succeed in the LCS, Xerxe will undoubtedly be at the helm.

2. Danny

Joining Evil Geniuses at the start of the 2021 Summer Split, Danny was a relatively unknown player from EG’s development roster. The ADC exploded onto the scene however, and quickly rose as the strongest rookie in the LCS. Though Evil Geniuses were ultimately dispatched by 100 Thieves in playoffs, Danny managed to pull off one of the most impressive 1v5 plays in recent memory. For 2022, all eyes are on Danny as Evil Geniuses as continued to bet on rookie talent. If Danny is able to repeat or even build upon his momentum from the previous year, EG will go far.

1. Fudge

Fudge began the Lock-In as Cloud9’s weakest link. Forced to play tanks and supportive toplaners, Fudge was often targeted and repeatedly ganked to gain early leads. By the time MSI rolled around, Fudge was the catalyst through which Cloud9 defeated some of the world’s best teams such as RNG and Damwon Kia. Fudge showed a phenomenal amount of growth in a relatively short time. Cloud9 clearly has faith in the toplaner as  the Australian will roleswap mid to remain on the squad for 2022.
