5 Crucial mistakes to avoid in Pokémon UNITE

1. Not playing for the objective

Now this might sound weird, because why wouldn’t you be playing the objective? It’s more common than it looks and sometimes you’ll just get caught up in the chaos of the game and simply forget that there’s a bigger idea behind the game than just running and fighting. While that’s obviously one of the most fun aspects of Pokémon UNITE, it is a team game and if you’re not carrying your weight enough, you’ll end up losing quite a bit.

2. Not using your best judgement

One of the most key aspects in Pokémon UNITE is learning (and just plain knowing) when to go in and when to seek the engage. Do you have a low health bar right now? Better to just go base and regroup. You’ll oftentimes see newer players just run into a group of enemies, get absolutely blown to smithereens and then ask why their team didn’t follow up and how they died so quickly. Don’t be that player and run through the scenarios in your head before making a decision, so you can make a good one. Instinct will come with playtime, but for now focus on finding out what helps you and your team out most.

3. Manage your Aeos Energy

Similarly to not playing the objective (in essence, this tip is a big part of that), hoarding Aeos Energy can be very detrimental to the team and your fight for winning. If you’re holding quite a bit of Aeos Energy try to get rid of it as quickly as possible and be sure to score points, because if you go running around and get knocked out, crucial points for your team will be lost (and it’ll be on you).

4. Focus on what you know (in Ranked)

When you’re playing Ranked, make sure you’re using a Pokémon you’ve experimented with and that you know the ins-and-outs of. It’ll make things a lot less stressful for both you and your teammates. Sometimes players make a snap judgement and try out a Pokémon they’ve never played before, but that’s what practice and the normal games are for. Experiment with Pokémon (and builds) before putting something on the line in a ranked match.

5. Make sure your items are set up correctly

Having the right items and the right build for your Pokémon are massive for Pokémon UNITE. It’ll give you an edge over your enemies and you can play to the strengths of the Pokémon you’re using. If you’re ever unsure about what to use, we’ve got a guide on some of the best builds in the game right now. Also, don’t be afraid to try out new things once in a while and switch things up a bit, but some items on certain Pokémon just plain don’t work, so be wary of that.
