5 Biggest LEC Players to watch in the offseason – Where will they go?

We have already seen numerous rumors on social media about the players of G2 Esports but they are not the only ones coming into the offseason as high profile free agents. We are particularly interested in where these five players will go as they can be considered as some of Europe’s greatest talents that are now up for ‘Grabbz’.

5. Rekkles – released by G2 management

Undoubtedly Europe’s best marksman of all time and the most decorated player in his position. He has been released from the G2 roster and enters free agency as one of the possibly most sought-after players. His legacy in Europe started all the way back in the European LCS when he started for Fnatic in 2013, making him one of the few veterans left in the European scene. Six first place finishes with Fnatic gets him the top spot on our players to watch list.

4. Carzzy – Contract ends 15th of November

One of the bigger revelations since the LEC must be Carzzy. With his goofy personality yet insane teamplay on the MAD Lions, he has proven himself among the best in Europe. Recently, the marksman has won two European titles and represented Europe at the Mid-Season Invitational scoring a top four finish as well as being Europe’s last hope at Worlds 2021. Alas, he did not yet win an international title, but his hunger is far from stilled after his already accomplished start to his career. Carzzy will go into this offseason with all chips in his hands. He can either try and negotiate for a better contract with MAD Lions or explore other options.

3. Bwipo – Contract ends 15th of November

Although this is a more uncertain topic to talk about, it has been clear that something changed within Fnatic at Worlds 2021. With the emergency substitution of Bean last second before the tournament started, Fnatic flopped out of the group stage with a 1-5 record. This one is more based on rumors than anything, but with Bwipo showcasing his talent in another role bringing his team to a well-deserved final in Europe, he showed a lot of prowess as a team player and leader overall. This adds a lot more value to him on the free agent market and could end up giving him a lot of teams that are interested in him. However, it is still not clear if Bwipo wants to leave Fnatic or negotiate for a new contract.

2. Wunder – Getting sold by G2 management

With his name goes a lot of controversy, especially looking back at his most recent split in the LEC. It was the first time G2 Esports did not make it to Worlds and part of it was blamed on Wunder. Was this a fair statement? Of course not, we might never know what happened in G2 Esports during the LEC Summer 2021 Play-offs. But with his name also comes experience and that is what makes Wunder such a valuable player within a team. Given the right environment to grow again, Wunder is an asset to not only his team but perhaps also an organization since he has tons of experience.

1. Mikyx – Getting sold by G2 management

It comes as no surprise that the last G2 player is also one of the more sought-after free agents at the moment. Although we could understand Wunder and Rekkles being released from the roster, releasing Mikyx felt somewhat strange. He was such a pivotal part of G2 and the success of the team that it felt unlikely that this was entirely G2’s decision. Maybe Mikyx wanted a stronger position on the market and could still renegotiate with G2, but for now his status remains the same: looking for a team. Not only brings Mikyx experience from both regional and international play, but he has also had so many obstacles thrown in his way on G2 that all of that has accumulated into one hell of a wise player.

Other players

Of course there are a lot more high profile free agents, honorable mentions are Razork, Kobbe, Vander, Selfmade and Crownshot. The offseason is upon us and for all we know some European players that played abroad can still come back to Europe the coming year. Nothing is certain and everything can happen so keep an eye out on the social media of your favorite team for the weeks to come so you can make sure you are the first one to spot an insane transfer or roster addition.
