3 Tips for better burst firing in CS:GO

So, what happens when you’re doomed to play solo queue? The tactics part gets all but removed, and more than some very basic tactics aren’t expected. You need to fall back on your aim and game sense to contribute. Today we take a closer look at one particular style of shooting, the burst fire. Burst fire means you fire in sequences of two to five bullets, rather than tapping (one bullet) or spraying (ALL the bullets).

There are a couple of advantages to burst firing. For example, even if you miss your first bullet, a burst fire might still kill your opponent. All fine and well, but how do we improve at burst firing?

1. Know your patterns

The spray patters for your first five bullets in any automatic weapon is basically a vertical line. You’ll need to adjust your crosshair accordingly for the majority of shots to hit your opponent. Train that pull-down until you’ve mastered adjusting it.

2. Your movement matters

After you stop moving, there is a slight delay where bullets aren’t accurate, and will go all over the place if you start shooting too quickly. The correct way is: you move, stop, shoot/move, stop, shoot. It makes you harder to hit, and will give you more time to reset if a burst should miss completely.

3. Know when to use burst

Burst firing is most effective shooting mechanic from a medium range. Tapping is for long range, spraying for close range. It’s therefore imperative you know when to use what. Unfortunately here, you’ll need to rely on your game sense, and that game sense can only improve by playing. You can still use the aim warmup maps, an aimtrainer, … to warm up of course. Any type of practice is better than no practice!
