The upcoming Gaming Festival is set to kick off in Johannesburg, South Africa in May. The event will stage a qualifier for the FIFA eSports World Cup, which will take place later in 2018.
This year’s Gaming Festival is a continuation of the pow-wow from 2017, when the Gaming Festival was hosted at Gallagher Convention Centre, with the winner claiming around $41,000 in prize money.
FIFA creator and publisher EA Sports have signed up with local gaming company VS Gaming to host an even more glamorous event. The prize pool has exactly tripled, and contenders will vie for $120,000 (around SAR1.5 million).
Hosted at Montecasino in Johannesburg on the weekend of 5-6 May, will provide South Africans with an opportunity to participate in the largest eSports qualifier for FIFA’s most prestigious tournament.
This year’s attendance rate is expected to soar to 1,000 participants, not all of whom will be familiar with eSports. The organisers have prepared and entertaining programme that will offer new faces in esports a pleasant stay.
