PlayVS becomes official partner to NFSHSA

School eSports have received another leg-up with the US National Federation of State High School Associations (NFSHSA) signing up PlayVS as an exclusive partner. The NFSHSA oversees developing sports infrastructure across schools in the United States and the latest addition of eSports is a clear sign that the segment is gaining popularity.

The organisation will also bring the NFHS on board to stream any future tournaments involving eSports. Similarly to mainstream sports events, all events that pertain to professional video gaming will be hosted both locally, with competitions between states also available.

Addressing the public after the signing-up of the partnership, CEO and founder of PlayVS Delane Parnell commented the following:

‘We’re excited to partner with the NFHS and NFHS Network to introduce eSports in high schools nationwide. This partnership combined with our technology and publisher relationships will help us create the first scalable competition for high school students. Esports is about more than just playing games – it can be used to help students grow their STEM interests and develop valuable life skills and since there are more high school gamers than athletes, it’s about time we foster this pastime in an educational setting.’

NFSH will seek to launch the first season on 15 October that will include participants and schools from across 15 states. The NFHS will bring its official Network on board and broadcast all eSports events.

With the help of PlayVS, the event organisers will be able to establish a championship that will create teams based on the competitors’ merits rather than age or gender. PlayVS will also seek to introduce four titles every year and every single competition will span over two seasons.

For comfortability’s sake, all participants will use the PlayVS online platform to join the competition. The championship games will be played live rather than online.
