The 39th edition of the Annual Sports Emmy Awards featured electronic sports for a second consecutive year, with ELEAGUE and Riot Games receiving nominations across a number of categories.

Riot Games’ sword-and-sorcery MOBA game League of Legends is a contender in the Outstanding Live Graphic Design category. The studio shares a nomination with ELEAGUE, along with traditional sports events in the selection such as the 2017 NBA Finals and College Basketball by ESPN.

ELEAGUE has received another nomination for Outstanding Trans-Media Sports Coverage along with The George Wensel Technical Achievement Award, facing competition from major news and entertainment outlets, including FOX, NBCSN, and DirecTV.

According to National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Chairman Chuck Dages, the multitude of new entries bears witness to the variety of competition that qualify as sports and excite interest among the audience.
