AVOID AS TEAMMATE: OVERWATCH'S NEW FEATURE

By Nikola Petrov Overwatch 26 Mar 2018 461 views

Blizzard announced a brand-new feature in the game aimed at improving player satisfaction by avoiding unpleasant teammates.

Developer Jeff Kaplan took to YouTube to bring the news. The feature was panned for release later this year, but due to the quick work of the engineers, they are ready to implement it with the very next patch.

So, what is ‘Avoid as teammate?’. Well, it’s exactly what it says on the tin. If you play a game with a player whom you find annoying or disrupting, but his offence is not really reportable, there is a button you can click to tell Overwatch matchmaking to never put the same person in your team again for the next seven days. Kaplan gave as an example a person who is not being ‘toxic’, per se, but keeps insisting that a certain player should pick a certain Hero or is generally unsupportive and a bad sport.

The Avoid list has only two slots, though. This means that players have to be considerate as to who goes there and there will be some management involved. You can at any point remove people from the list, too, should you change your mind. The community showed mixed reactions to the news. Some appreciate the additional layer of filtering when it comes to the social aspect of the game, and others think that two slots are way too few to make an actual difference in the match making. In any case, it is good to see that the devs care about the community and try to improve the way people interact in-game.
