An all German final saw Fabian ‘Dubzje’ De Cae triumph in the ESWC challenge held in Paris. Dubzje beat his fellow countryman Mario ‘Mmayo’ Reubold a comfortable 5-2 in the last game of the event to win the XBOX tourney.
Along with the winner in the PS4 bracket the previous night August ‘Agge’ Rosenmeier, the German ensured a place in the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series playoffs with his victory.
Curiously, Dubzje and Agge walked a very similar path to glory. Just like his counterpart, De Cae finished in second place in his respective group, trailing home favourite Nathan ‘Herozia’ Gil. Then, in similar fashion to Agge, he kicked it up a gear and cruised through the quarter-finals with a crushing 9-3 over another Frenchman - Florian ‘RayZiaaH’ Maridat.
The toughest equation the potential champion had to solve came in the face of Musaad ‘Msdossary’ Aldossary in the semis. The sole Saudi Arabian representative gave his all, alas it wasn’t enough and his opponent came out a 6-5 victor. The other semi-final served similar drama and with the same score of 6-5 MMayo sent Herozia to the 3rd place match, setting in stone a German derby in the big final.
After a great tournament, MMayo had to settle for the silver as a result of Dubzje’s dominant play on the defensive end, conceding only two goals total, and scoring 5 on his own. Musaad Aldossary finished in third place, taking part in a goal bonanza - 8-5 over Nathan Gil. Dubzje walks out of Paris with a $2,500 check, a spot in the Global series playoffs and most importantly - some serious bragging rights.
ESWC is a recent addition to the official qualifiers calendar for the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series playoffs. Online games were played for the duration of March that settled the contestants for the final four offline tournaments, the first two of which were in Paris on 7 and 8 April. The qualifiers will continue on 28 and 29 April in São Paulo. The four victors are granted entry to the Global Series playoffs that will determine the challengers for the FIFA eWorld Cup Grand Final 2018 - EA’s grandest competition.
