Esports viewership data website Gamoloco has announced that Fortnite was the most-watched game on Twitch for March. Fortnite outstripped long-standing favourite League of Legends, relegating the sword-and-sorcery saga to second place, the site said.

Gamoloco uses a number of metrics to determine games by viewership. It aggregates and calculates a number of maximum simultaneous viewers, the average number of viewers, the total time of streaming, the average number of streams that broadcast a game title and the average number of viewers by channel.

For a long while now, League of Legends has been at the forefront of the ladder, followed by other popular titles, such as CS:GO, Dota 2, and Overwatch. Since the arrival of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in 2017, the battle royale genre has been steadily climbing the charts.

In March, Fortnite was Twitch’s most-watched title with 30 million hours spent watching more than League of Legends. The total viewership of Fortnite for March was close to 118.14 million hours.

Fortnite has caused so much interest that users have created more than 8,000 channels dedicated to the game. On 25 March, the number of concurrent spectators peaked at around 860,000.  The heady rise to the top, stands to exemplify Fortnite’s burgeoning potential as an eSports title. It would be worth casting a glance back when April is out and the new results come out.
