MOBILE ESPORTS TRAILBLAZER SKILLZ UP 125% IN REVENUE

Leading mobile eSports platform Skillz managed to grow its revenue by 125% between Q1 2017 and Q1 2018. Inc. Magazine cited the company as the fastest-growing business back in August 2017.

Skillz CEO and founder Andrew Paradise has highlighted the company’s vision, which has helped put Skillz at the helm of mobile electronic sports. Paradise argued that Skillz played a decisive role in coining the term mobile eSports as early as 2012, at a time when ‘eSports was virtually unknown even in the PC world.’

Paradise believes mobile is probably the most lucrative product the eSports industry has to offer, describing it as the ‘top of the spear.’ In a press release, Skillz posted other important metrics, boasting a heady one million tournaments per day played through Skillz and pooling together 15 million competitors. On average, a player spends 63 minutes per day browsing or playing on Skillz, which far outstrips alternative entertainment venues, such as YouTube and Facebook.

Skillz is also in the business of giving back, having dished out awards to the tune of $200 million in total prizes. In 2017 alone, the top 10 players notched up over $2 million in prize cash.

More titles are transitioning towards the mobile platform or come up as mobile-first eSports titles. The rise of mobile eSports is also allowing game developers to reach to a broader audience, with mainstream titles branching into the platform.
