Team Secret went on a hot streak during DreamLeague Season 9 and took the number one spot versus Fnatic in a Bo5 series. Through the whole tournament, they haven’t lost a single game which is quite the feat with a competition of this level.
You could argue that game one was decided in the drafting stage, since Fnatic had no initiation whatsoever and relied entirely on Omniknight’s Guardian Angel. This could’ve actually worked out for them if they didn’t lose the early game by that much. Team Secret had better coordination and better vision, which gave them the opportunity to work around their opponent’s strengths and exploit their weakness, which as mentioned above was the lack of initiation. With all three of Secret’s cores towering above the rest in networth, they had the better picks and itemized properly with Orchid Malevolence on Visage to further shutdown their rivals. We had the awkward moment where the Dire were destroying barracks for free, with Fnatic having no answer whatsoever. The game ended in 34 minutes, with a one-sided victory for Clement ‘Puppey’ Ivanov’s squad.
In game two Fnatc really wanted to snowball from early game, so they shook their lineup by sending Saahil ‘UNiVeRsE’ Arora to the mid lane in order to counter the Phantom Lancer and went with a Chen on Djardel Jicko B. ‘DJ’ Mampusti. That went according to plan initially, but soon Secret started picking people off and a few mispositions cost Jacky ‘EternalEnvy’ Mao’s team the advantage. Yeik ‘MidOne’ Nai Zheng got the aegis advantage and the same situation from game one was repeated, taking barracks without consequences, that left Fnatic to their final stand against the Mega creeps. A few minutes after it was all over, making it 2-0 for Secret’s side.
In the final game Fnatic picked a pushing composition, featuring Death Prophet and Nature’s Prophet, but instead of focusing on objectives and splitpushing, they took one too many fights that didn’t exactly end in their favour. EternalEnvy was completely shutdown through the entirety of the game, with even the enemy Rubick exceeding his networth. With a 30k gold lead it didn’t take much effort for Secret to end the game.
Team Secret have been dominant in the pro scene for quite a while, making them one of the top three teams in the world right now, right beside Team Liquid and Virtus.pro. This is the second time in a row they’ve won DreamLeague and the squad’s looking as sharp as ever.
